You call it rehashing, but us lot in TC Towers call it revision - the best articles from the magazine back in its physical heyday, all in handy e-form. Laziness? Hardly - come Monday, it's all go again ;)
NEPHU HUZZBAND, August 2008
“We do like a bit of math rock”, admits lead singer Tom, “Proper math though, heavy –as-fuck math. Not... diet-math.” So far, so Foals... “I think if we’d released (latest single) Nurse! Nurse! when we wrote it, people wouldn’t have likened us to them.” So was it a case of the Oxford four-piece copying their style? “Not totally... but basically, yeah”. Despite having narrowly missed the agit-indie train that’s taken bands like Foals and Black Kids to the top of the charts, you suspect Nephu Huzzband are in no rush to tag along; with one single in the bag last October, and an EP having recently been released onto iTunes, their progress from stalwarts of the local circuit to genuine contenders on a national scale has been steady enough to earn them plaudits from the national press and supporting roles for Hot Club de Paris and Die Die Die.
“I think [the reception for the EP] has been better than we anticipated,” explains bassist Jamie. “Being on iTunes has really helped us get our name around.” Fresh from a two-week stint recording in the depths of the Welsh countryside, the band have been able to commit to tape ideas that have been bubbling away since, in some cases, 2005, as Tom indicates; “There’ve been quite a few new ideas coming out, and it’s definitely taken a turn. It’s been a development from the last EP, that’s for sure” It now remains for the band to take their live show further afield, with shows planned nationally for later in the year. “It’s just a case of building up the fanbase; hopefully the more material we get out there, the more coverage we’ll get as a result, and then we’ll be able to organise a more structured tour.”
